Author: David Stafford Published: 2003 Pages: 366 This is an enjoyable account of the lead-up to the D-Day landings. It follows the lives of those caught up in the Normandy landings from the great and the good (including Churchill, Eisenhower, De Gaulle) to the average men or women at war (a young English WREN, Canadian and US soldiers, a German soldier, French resistance fighters, a Norwegian POW and a Jewish immigrant hiding in Paris). It reads like a novel and is actually quite gripping, even if you do know what happens.
